Making Family Portraits FUN!

Kalli’s 8th Birthday Party

This summer we had a mermaid theme for Kalli’s party, we hung blue and dark green “seaweed” (crepe paper) over the Entrance of the porch, decorated with shells and sand. Had a sunken ship made out of a watermelon and offered the guests barnacles (almonds), gold fish, swedish fish, and octopus tentacles (red-vines).  It was a wonderful swim party and we all had a great time!

Love, love, love

Don’t you remember that feeling? The burn in your heart, the desperate need to be in the same room as the object of your affection just to breathe the same air? I like to call this the obsession part of love. I loved this part, the falling in love part, when the world fades away and all that matters is the two of you and the love you have for each other (before the world dumps a bucket of cold water in your faces and you have to pay the utilities bill). I get to revisit this feeling every once in awhile when I do an engagement session (just for the record I ADORE and LOVE my husband so much, though we just visit this particular phase of love every now and then after 11 years together). This engagement session was a very special one for me, as it is my baby brother and his fiancé! They are so in love, I make fun of them (not in a mean way, they are so cute! Like puppies!). I cannot wait to capture memories of their BIG DAY for them!

Chilling with Mr. Bedhead

The first week of January was spent mostly at home being with my sick baby doing all the things that parents do for sick babies (and I won’t go into detail because if you are childless someday you may want children and I don’t want to be the one to dissuade you…). So this photo is what we did that whole time (well in-between the actively ‘sick’ part), sat on the couch and read, gazed into each others eyes, clung to each other (well mostly he to me while I tried to put dishes away one handed). This photo will always remind me of this cuddling time because of his expression and the fact that he isn’t trying to climb, crawl, cruise, bat at, smack, and otherwise be ‘on the go’. Plus I love his spectacular case of bed-head.

Project 52:1 is a weekly photo assignment that I am going to be doing for myself. Its  going to be about my life and family. Ever week I want to take a photo of what my week is like or what our focus is and share it in this project. I would like to update it every Thursday, but I am sure there may be some missing ones or doubles maybe even triples! 🙂 That is life with a family like mine! Here is my P52:1 for Jan. 1-7.

My resolution this year is not about business or success, or even getting organized (even though I would like to do all). My resolution this year is to connect. To not be too busy to be with the ones I love. To be so grateful for the people in my life.
